Susan Z. Barrows, DVM
Practice Owner

|
In 1992, Dr. Barrows simultaneously opened AMC and founded the Bozeman non-profit organization known today as the Montana Raptor Conservation Center. Dr. Barrows attributes her interest in veterinary medicine and exotics to her upbringing in a household full of orphaned wild animals and stray dogs and cats in Connecticut. Her veterinary preceptorship at the New York Bronx Zoo further fueled her passion for avian and exotic animal medicine. She loves the teamwork fostered in a clinical setting and the challenge of diagnosing and treating illnesses in all household pets. Dr. Barrows graduated from Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and was hired there as a Laboratory Animal Clinician. She founded the Iowa State Wildlife Care Clinic and taught raptor and wildlife medicine to vet students. In 1987, Dr. Barrows moved to Bozeman with her husband Rick, a fish nutritionist, their son and German Shorthair Pointers. Today, she has two sons, two Pugs (one named Yogi Bear-ows and the other is Tinker) along with a Wire-Haired Pointing Griffin named Zeke, saltwater fish and numerous horses. Horseback riding and packing, scuba diving, fishing, photography and reading are her favorite pastimes.
Dr. Barrows is a member of several professional organizations including: the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Montana Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. |

as an R.N. in Seattle and on Cape Cod. Eight years later she graduated
from Bel-Rea Institute with a degree in Veterinary Technology and

Shanna – Certified Vet Technician

|
Shanna joined AMC on August, 2010 as a Certified Veterinary Technician. She attended St. Petersburg College in Florida where she received her degree in Veterinary Technology. Shanna has ten years experience in the veterinary field - much of that time was spent working in Ohio with a veterinary neurologist (her special interests include surgery, anesthesia and pain management). She feels that the most rewarding moments of being a technician are "when a patient, who has recovered from a serious injury or illness, is reunited with their family; that special bond between a pet and their owner is amazing." Shanna is proud to be a member of AMC - the entire team is dedicated to pain management and providing the best care possible regarding their patients." Shanna grew up in Kent, Ohio, but worked two summers in Yellowstone Park while she attended college. There was no question in her mind where she would eventually live: Montana! In her off hours she enjoys backpacking, reading, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.

Ronald-"Hospital Cat"

|
Ronald joined the AMC staff in January
2008. He was adopted by AMC after his
family could not care for him anymore.
Ronald's duties at AMC include boosting
staff morale and looking adorable as
resident kitty. In his "free time" Ronald
enjoys: sun bathing, eating, sleeping and
indulging in catnip. Ronald has a passion
for fashion. He shows this by sporting a stylin' mohawk and a diamond studded "R"
bling necklace. He has quite the cat-titude,
especially after being published in November's Butler supply catalog.
