We often attribute the slowing down of our older pets to normal aging when indeed they have medical problems that can be treated. Arthritis, kidney disease, dental infections, heart problems and thyroid disorders often go undiagnosed.
State of the art in-house equipment and comprehensive veterinary laboratories allow us to conduct thorough wellness examinations on pets of all ages. To optimize the quality of life for senior pets we recommend the following annual tests:
Complete Blood Count and Comprehensive profile to evaluate bone marrow and major organ function; these tests help detect cancers, anemias, thyroid disorders, kidney and liver disease and electrolytes as examples;
A urinalysis to test for urinary tract infection, inflammation, stones and cancer;
A blood pressure test, chest radiographs and an EKG to evaluate
the heart and lungs;
Intraocular eye pressure measurement to rule out glaucoma which may lead to
blindness.
Other tests may be run dependent on your pet’s health status and special needs. Call our office for more information and special pricing on our geriatric programs |
